La Crosse, Wis. - The Viterbo University Baseball team returned to its winning ways Thursday as they took both games from visiting Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. The V-Hawks won 4-2 in the first game and 3-2 in the second.

The V-Hawks held the Cardinals to just four hits in the first game as starting pitcher Brent Peotter (So. - Menasha, Wis.) earned the win after pitching four innings allowing just one run on three hits. Nick Lenzendorf (Sr. - Eastman, Wis.) picked up the save after pitching the final three innings allowing just one run and one hit while picking up three strikeouts.

The V-Hawks took a 2-1 lead in to the fourth inning before fielding miscues by the Cardinals would allow two more V-Hawk runs which helped seal the victory. Cardinals starting third baseman Ryan Archambault had three consecutive errors which loaded the bases for the V-Hawks as Viterbo finally found some much needed offense. Drew Farrell (Jr. - Middleton, Wis.) and Justin Daniels (Jr. - Holmen, Wis.) each drove in a run as the V-Hawks took the 4-1 lead. The Cardinals would score one more run in the fifth inning but it wasn't enough as the V-Hawks came away with the game one victory.

The leading hitter for the V-Hawks was Shawn Loch (Sr. - Suamico, Wis.) who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In the second game the V-Hawks did all of their damage in the first inning as they scored three runs off of starting pitcher Gary Seifert. Brett Moravec's (Jr. - Boulder City, Nev.) single drove in two runs before a Lenzendorf double drove in the third run of the inning.

The Cardinals would score a run in each the second and third innings but would fail to score for the remainder of the game as neither team scored a run in the final four innings. V-Hawks starting pitcher Cole Clements (Fr. - Readstown, Wis.) earned the game two win after allowing two earned runs in five innings of work while allowing just four hits. Moravec earned the save after he pitched a perfect seventh inning for the V-Hawks.

Leading the way offensively for the V-Hawks was Bryan Ramirez (Jr. - Soledad, Calif.) who went 3-for-3 with three singles. Also collecting two hits apiece was Moravec and Loch.

The win improves Viterbo's overall record to 15-11-1 as Saint Mary's falls to 6-10. The V-Hawks next game will be on Monday as the team is set to host Waldorf College in a double-header with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.
