La Crosse, Wis. - Award winners for the 2009-10 Women's Basketball season were announced today and they included two Viterbo University V-Hawks. Katina Mandylaris (Sr. - Melbourne, Australia) and Dani Templin (Fr. - Richland Center, Wis.) were both named to the Midwest Collegiate Conference Honorable Mention team.
This is the third time that Mandylaris has received end of the year honors as she was named First-Team All-MCC last season and Honorable Mention in the 2006-07 season. Mandylaris finished third on the team in scoring this season averaging 9.2 ppg and first in rebounding with 9.7 rpg. Her rebounding totals were good enough for third most in the MCC this season.
Mandylaris also finishes her career as the only female basketball player to record both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She finishes her career as Viterbo's 11th all-time leading scorer with 1,143 points and the school's all-time leading rebounder with 1,024.
Templin finished the season as the leading scorer for the V-Hawks averaging 13.5 ppg. She also averaged a team-best 1.9 apg while finishing third in rebounding with 4.3 rpg. Templin's 431 points this season were the second most of all freshman and the seventh most in the entire MCC.
The V-Hawks season came to an end February 25th as the team lost 69-36 in the quarterfinals to eventual conference champion Iowa Wesleyan University. The V-Hawks defeated Ashford University 62-58 in a play-in game which advanced them to the quarterfinal round. The V-Hawks will be saying goodbye to their two seniors as both Mandylaris and fellow senior Joni Stanek (Kendall, Wis.) have played their final game in a V-Hawk uniform.
