La Crosse, Wis. - The Viterbo University Men's and Women's bowling teams are headed for the post season in the very first season for both squads.
The V-Hawk men and women will compete in the United States Bowling Congress Sectional event in Peoria, Illinois March 12-14. "We've accomplished one of our goals," said Matt Krueger (Fr. - Green Bay, Wis.).While the V-Hawk men are happy to be advancing, they're not ready for the season to end."We have a chance to do some damage," said Greg Pizl (Fr. - Antigo, Wis)."We've bowled against most of the top teams in the country and we're confident we'll be very competitive."
The attitide is similar for the Viterbo women. "This is really exciting and it shows we have a solid future," said Kendra Bundy (Fr. - Tomah, Wis.). "It's a big deal," according to Rachel Schalow (Fr. - Marshfield, Wis.). "Coming in as a freshman in a first-year program, I wasn't really sure what to expect, so this is great."
Both the Viterbo men and women will bowl 64 Baker Style games over the weekend. The top 4 men's teams and top 4 women's teams from each of four Sectional sites will qualify for the national tournament in April. "We have to be at our best. If we are we have a good chance to advance," said V-Hawks head coach Jim Socha."Worst-case scenario, this will be great experience for the kids."
