La Crosse, Wis. - Viterbo University Women's Cross Country Coach John Metelko announced today that Lindsy Cook (Rhinelander, Wis.) and Nicole Bielefeldt (Mondovi, Wis.) have signed letters of intent to run for the Lady V-Hawks in 2010.

Cook joins the V-Hawks after spending her high school career running for Three Lakes High School. At Three Lakes, Cook had plenty of success at the conference level and the state level. A four time participant in the Wisconsin State Cross Country Championships, Cook qualified for the Division 3 race as an individual her sophomore and junior years and as part of the qualifying team from Three Lakes her freshman and senior years. As a junior and as a senior, Cook earned all conference (Northern Lakes Conference) honors besides lettering four times in cross country. Cook has also lettered in track and field and basketball and soccer. In track, Cook is part of the Bluejays school record holding 4X800 meter team, and has also qualified for the state meet in that event.

This year Cook has captained the Bluejays cross country and basketball teams. Cook will major in Sport Science and Leadership at Viterbo.

"Lindsy has the drive and commitment to be a successful leader among her peers and has the ability to make everyone around her better," stated Coach Metelko."I expect her to be a key contributor for us over the next four years."

Bielefeldt joins the V-Hawks after attending UW-Richland and graduating from Gilmanton High School. At Gilmanton, Bielefeldt lettered in volleyball and basketball for the Panthers and in cross country for the Independence/Gilmanton co-op team. Since graduating from Gilmanton in 2008, Bielefeldt has attended UW-Richland where she has been a member of the women's basketball team.

Bielefeldt will major in Dietetics and Nutrition at Viterbo.

"Nicole is a student who knows the dedication and commitment it takes to be a student-athlete and a teammate that her peers can count on," stated Coach Metelko. "I look forward to Nicole joining our team."

Cook and Bielefeldt will be joining a women's cross country team which finished second in the Midwest Collegiate Conference this past season, in their second year of competition.
