La Crosse, Wis. - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team lost its regular season finale Saturday afternoon 71-62 to the visiting Statesmen of William Penn University. Despite the loss, Katina Mandylaris (Sr. - Melbourne, Australia) became the first women to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in school history.

The V-Hawks faced a 27-17 deficit before they went on a 12-4 run in the final three minutes of the first half. This run, sparked by three 3-pointers from the V-Hawks, decreased the Statesmen lead to just two points as William Penn went into the break with a 31-29 lead. Dani Templin (Fr. - Richland Center, Wis.) led the way for the V-Hawks as she finished with 11 points in the first half.

The Statesmen were able to increase the lead back out to ten points with nine minutes remaining as the V-Hawks made just four field goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half. After working the ball inside, the V-Hawks converted on 10 of their next 13 free throws as they pulled even to a 58-58 tie.

However, the final two and a half minutes of the game belonged to William Penn's Christa Subbert. Subbert, who entered the game as the Statesmen leading scorer averaging 16.6 ppg, scored eight consecutive points for the Statesman giving them a 68-60 advantage with just one minute remaining. This lead was enough for William Penn as they went on to earn the 71-62 victory.

Subbert was the Statesmen's leading scorer as she finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Fifteen of her 23 points came from behind the three point line as she finished 5-9 from behind the arc. Also scoring in double figures for William Penn was Rachel Butler and Samantha Darley who finished with 17 and 10 points respectively.

The leading scorer for the V-Hawks was Templin who ended with 25 points and five rebounds. Needing just six rebounds for 1,000 in her career was Mandylaris who finished the game with 14 points and 14 rebounds making her the first player in Viterbo Women's Basketball history with both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

The V-Hawks struggled shooting as they finished 16-51 (31.4%) from the field including just 5-21 (23.8%) from behind the three point line. The Statesmen had greater success as they finished 25-58 (43.1%) from the field. They also out-rebounded the V-Hawks 43-36.

The loss wraps up the regular season for the V-Hawks as they finish with a 7-23 overall record and a 3-13 record in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. The win gives William Penn a 17-13 overall record and a 9-7 MCC record. The V-Hawks will be in action this upcoming Monday as they will host Ashford University in the MCC play-in game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium on the campus of Viterbo University.
