Dubuque, Iowa - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team ended a nine game losing streak tonight as they dominated the lady Crusaders of Clarke College in all facets of the game, winning 71-55.

In the first half, the V-Hawks applied the pressure early as they would go on an 8-0 run to go ahead 12-4. The Crusaders would fight back however and tie the game up at 22 with 3:16 remaining. Following a steal that led to a fast-break bucket by Laquita Becker (Fr.-Caledonia, Minn.), the V-Hawks would play at a highly intensified level for the rest of the game. Going into the locker room at halftime it was the V-Hawks on top 28-24.

The second half would be all V-Hawks. The team improved their shooting from 46% (first half) to 53.8% from the floor and from 33% (first half) to 94% from the line. Along with an improved second half shooting performance, the V-Hawks would defend much better as they held Clarke to a mere 33% from the floor.

Leading the V-Hawks on the night were Katina Mandylaris (Sr.-Melbourne, Australia) with 10 points and 15 rebounds, Joni Stanek (Sr.-Kendall, Wis.) with 22 points and four rebounds, and Dani Templin (Fr.-Richland Center, Wis.) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Some other important notes on the night are the fact that Viterbo's bench out-scored Clarke's 34-17 and the V-Hawks out-rebounded their opponent 52-27.

The win puts the V-Hawks at 3-12 (7-22) and in tied for seventh place in the Midwest Collegiate Conference. Clarke's loss (3-12, 6-23) drops them out of sole ownership of the seventh spot as they now share it with Viterbo. Viterbo will finish the regular season on Saturday when they host William Penn University at 1:00 pm.
