La Crosse, Wis. – After earning the number one ranking in country, the Viterbo University volleyball team took the court on a mission. With number seven ranked Dordt College standing in their way, Viterbo came out firing and used an offensive attack to secure a 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22 win. 

Viterbo wasted no time in the first set taking control as they built an early 9-3 lead. Senior Natalie Geidel (SR/West Bend, Wis.) led the fast start with three kills. Dordt then cut the deficit to 11-7 but Viterbo responded to take a 16-9 lead and the Defenders would not get in closer than six the rest of the way. As a team, Viterbo finished the opening set with 19 kills and an efficient .385 hitting percentage.

The second set saw the V-Hawks build an early 6-2 lead as they would never trail in the game. After Dordt cut their deficit to 11-9, Viterbo took a timeout and responded to take a 17-12 lead. Dordt slowly chipped away and eventually cut their deficit to 22-20. Viterbo would score three of the final four points to win the second set 25-21. Yet again, Viterbo would had a very balanced offensive attack finishing with 19 kills and just 2 errors for a .472 hitting percentage.

Dordt would not go down easily and both teams traded points over the first 20 points as the score was tied 10-10. Viterbo then scored the next three points before Dordt went on a 9-1 run to take a 19-14 lead. Viterbo would cut their deficit to 23-20 but Dordt would close it out for a 25-21 third set win. Dordt limited Viterbo in the third set to just 11 kills and a .024 hitting percentage.

The final set was the closest one of them all as Dordt took a 12- 10- lead midway through. Viterbo tied it up at 14 before Dordt took a 16-14 lead. Viterbo would eventualy take a 21-20 lead before the Defenders tied it at 22. Viterbo would score the final three points to win the fourth set 25-22. Viterbo's offense was rolling again as they finished with 17 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.

Three players in double figures in kills including Geidel with a game high 21 while Miah Garant (FR/Fort Atkinson, Wis.) finished with 15 and Maya Roberts (FR/Watertown, Wis.) added 13 kills led Viterbo's balanced offensive attack. All three of them finished with a hitting percentage of higher than .324 on the night.  Senior Amelia Grahn (SR/Madison, Wis.) finished with a double-double as she had a 58 assists and 11 digs. Senior Baylee Gross (SR/West Bend, Wis.) finished with a match high 18 digs while Rachel Frankowski (SO/Menomonee Falls, Wis.) added 10 digs.

The win keeps Viterbo undefeated on the season as they improve to 18-0 and extends their home win streak to 57 matches in a row. Dordt falls to 18-4 on the year. Viterbo will be back in action on Friday night when they host North Star Athletic Association foe Dakota State University at 7:00 pm.
