La Crosse, Wis. – Viterbo University senior Natalie Geidel (SR/West Bend, Wis.) was tabbed NAIA National Attacker of the Week today while the V-Hawks moved up to the #2 spot in the NAIA National polls. 

Geidel earns the honor after leading her teammates to a 4-0 record last weekend at the Columbia College tournament being named tournament MVP. Playing three nationally ranked opponents along with another team, Geidel finished the weekend with 53 kills in 14 sets played (3.79 kills/set), hitting .427 and recording 18 block assists and three solo blocks. Geidel's top performance may have come against #12 Missouri Baptist when she finished with 17 kills, a solo block and 11 assisted blocks. In Viterbo's 3-2 come from behind win over #3 Park University, Geidel had 22 kills, a solo block and seven assisted blocks.

For the season, Geidel has played a major role in the V-Hawks starting the year 7-0 as she leads the team with 99 kills (3.97 kills/set) and an impressive 1.28 total blocks per set. Her block per set average ranks eighth in the NAIA while her .394 hitting percentage on the season is good for ninth in the NAIA.

Geidel and her teammates started the season ranked sixth in the preseason polls but found themselves in the #2 spot when the first official poll was released today. Viterbo moved up four spots and only trail NAIA defending national champion Hastings. Viterbo received three of the 21 first place votes in the coach's poll; finding themselves just 23 points behind the Broncos of Hastings.

Viterbo's impressive start to the season includes a 6-0 record against teams ranked in the preseason top-25. Viterbo opened the season at home with wins over then #4 Midland (3-1), #10 Grand View (3-1) and #23 Carroll (3-0). Then this past weekend they be then #3 Park (3-2), #12 Missouri Baptist (3-2), Friends (3-0) and #8 Columbia College (3-0).

After an intercity showdown with UW-La Crosse on Wednesday night (7:00 pm), Viterbo will host the Holiday INN Express Tournament this Friday and Saturday. Viterbo opens the weekend with Aquinas College at 2:00 pm on Friday followed by (RV) Olivet Nazarene University at 7:00 pm. Then on Saturday, the V-Hawks will play #10 Cornerstone University at 10:00 am followed by a match with St. Xavier University at 3:00 pm. For tournament website and full schedule please visit
