LA CROSSE, Wis. – Viterbo University Director of Athletics Barry Fried announced on Wednesday that Brian Lewis has been named the V-Hawks' head baseball coach. After serving the 2017 season as the interim, Lewis officially becomes the ninth head coach in V-Hawks history since the program started in 1988.

"Brian is a person of great integrity," stated Fried. "His values align with our mission and he will be a great fit for our university and baseball program. Brian also has a great knowledge of the game and has had a wide variety of coaching experiences so he is prepared for this opportunity.  Finally, he's a hard worker and committed to building our baseball program the right way so that's exciting."

In his interim season, Lewis took over a young program with 27 underclassmen and guided the V-Hawks to 12 victories including 10 in North Star Athletic Association play to place sixth in the league. Under Lewis' direction, the V-Hawks hit a solid .286 in conference play and garnered one Second Team All-NSAA honoree and two Honorable Mention All-NSAA recipients.

"I would like to thank Barry Fried as well as President Glena Temple for giving me this incredible opportunity at Viterbo," Lewis said. "It gives me a feeling of satisfaction to know that I am surrounded by people that believe in me as well as my vision for the V-Hawks baseball program. I look forward to being a part of the entire distinguished community of Viterbo and the city of La Crosse for a long time to come."

Lewis has a deep history in collegiate baseball, bringing over 10 years of coaching experience to the V-Hawks. Prior to the 2017 as interim head coach, Lewis spent the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach on the staff. Before entering the baseball scene in the La Crosse community, Lewis spent two years as hitting coach at Illinois Central College and 10 years as an assistant coach at Lewis & Clark Community College.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Lewis has been a part of the La Crosse Loggers staff since five years including the last two summers as manager. Lewis also spent time in the Independent Professional Frontier League as the Director of Baseball Operations and Hitting Coach for the River City Rascals from 2003-06.

Lewis took over as interim for Ted Falkner in January, who left to return to his hometown as the head baseball coach at Madonna University.
