GULF SHORES, Ala. – No stranger to the National stage, Viterbo University track and field's Samantha Reilly returned to the NAIA Outdoor Championships for the second straight year. This trip marks Reilly's fifth trip to Nationals overall for the V-Hawks.

In the first event of the day, Reilly joined 10 other competitors in flight one of the hammer throw. After recording a pair of throws just under 47 meters, Reilly closed with a 48.52-meter mark in her third toss to move up to third place in the flight.

Reilly's throw placed her 15th overall, moving up one spot from last year's finish. The Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, native bested the only other North Star Athletic Association participant in the 30-person field.

Experience was evident in the hammer throw on Thursday as 13 of the top 15 finishers were upperclassmen. Raven Kelly of St. Francis (Ill.) won the event with a mark of 61.33 meters.
