JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Viterbo University men's track and field team joined the North Star Athletic Association at the league's final meet the past two days and recorded some solid individual results. The V-Hawks eight top-five finishes as they placed fifth at the NSAA Championships.

-The V-Hawks swept the podium in the pole vault on Thursday as Matt Matel (SO/Marathon, Wis.) earned the title with a season-best 4.0 meter mark. Dalton Yocum (SR/La Farge, Wis.) and Joshua Housel finished in second and third, respectively.

-Housel also shined in the 400 meter hurdles as he defended his title with a time of 56.56 seconds, his best this year.

-Matel raced to a second place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 15.18 seconds.

-In the 200 meter dash, Paxton Smith (SO/Oklahoma City, Okla.) recorded a new school record as he crossed the tape in 22.57 seconds, breaking David Hale's record from 2014. Smith also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a new personal best of 11.20.

-In his final race for Viterbo, William Jeffries placed sixth in the 10,000 meter race with a time of 36:52.16.

-Recording a third place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase was Jorge Pichardo (JR/Harvard, Ill.), finishing in 10:43.06.
