CHICAGO, Ill. – For their last non-conference contest of 2017, the Viterbo University baseball team had a tall task facing the University of Illinois at Chicago. The V-Hawks were within in a run across four frames but ultimately fell 9-2 to the Horizon League leaders.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-In a committee effort on the hill, John Costello made the start and allowed just one earned run across two innings.

-The V-Hawks pushed across their first run of the game in the third inning when Noah Bouley drew a bases-loaded walk to score DJ Wilson.

-The Flames responded with a pair in the bottom half but a leadoff home run from Ethan Bell in the fourth cut the deficit to 3-2.

-From there, UIC used five different pitchers to close out the game, scattering just three hits.

-Viterbo surrendered six more runs but Wyatt Cook was solid in his two innings, striking out one and allowing just one hit.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

-Wilson picked up two of the V-Hawks five hits, scoring a run as well.

-Bell accounted for the other run, connecting for his second home run of the year.

-With a walk in the third inning, Mannie De La Rosa extended his reached base safely streak to 30 games.

-Cook was the only V-Hawks pitcher to hold the Flames scoreless, tossing 2.0 innings against the NCAA Division I program.
