LA CROSSE, Wis. – After a sweep on Thursday, the Viterbo University baseball team was in prime position to earn a series victory over Waldorf University. The V-Hawks dropped the first on Saturday, but used timely hitting to earn a game two and series victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite going .342 as a team at the plate in game one, the V-Hawks left 10 runners on the base paths, failing to cash in.
-Waldorf, however, capitalized in six of the nine innings, scoring 12 total runs.
-Viterbo had it knotted at 2-2 after a leadoff home run from Mannie De La Rosa in the third and stayed tied through five innings, but the Warriors got to reliever Tyler Fischer for three runs in the sixth and did not look back.
-After an early home run had Waldorf up a pair, the V-Hawks retaliated quickly, scoring eight runs in the first three innings.
-In the second, Mike Gross connected for a two-run homer, and in the five-run third inning, Rowdy Yates recorded his second hit of the day, a bases-clearing double.
-Waldorf cut into the deficit with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, but Austin Stibbe shut down the Warriors in the seventh for his third save in as many days.
