LA CROSSE, Wis. – Offense has been key for the Viterbo University softball team lately but on Thursday afternoon, the V-Hawks pitching stepped up. Solid performances from the circle coupled with some timely home runs helped Viterbo earn their second straight sweep of Waldorf University 3-0 and 4-2.


-Kayla McInerney (SR/Taconite, Minn.) and Bailey Thur (SO/Yorkville, Wis.) dealt in game one, scattering just five hits over seven innings, combined.

-McInerney struck out a pair and allowed just two hits in five innings, while Thur picked up the save with one strikeout and two hits allowed in the final two frames.

-Offensively, the V-Hawks relied on the long ball as three of their four hits were home runs.

-In three consecutive innings, Elli Anderson (FR/Minneapolis, Minn.), Abigail Giese (FR/Hager City, Wis.), and Sarah Obert (SO/La Crosse, Wis.) each homered as the V-Hawks earned a 3-0 shutout victory.

-In game two, Caitlyn Kozik (SO/Marshfield, Wis.) and Obert took care of business on the rubber. Obert allowed four hits and a pair of earned runs while Kozik scattered three base knocks in three innings.

-Down 2-0, the V-Hawks rallied in the sixth inning. Anderson ripped her second homer of the day to tie it 2-2 and after a solo shot from Thur, Sarah Throgmorton (SO/Waukesha, Wis.) singled in Sarah Duerwachter (FR/La Crescent, Minn.) to go up 4-2.

-Obert took care of business in the seventh, to close out a series sweep for Viterbo.


-The V-Hawks pitchers allowed just two earned runs in 14 innings, finishing with a team earned run average of 1.00.

-Five of Viterbo's 11 hits on the day were home runs, accounting for six of the seven runs scored.

-Anderson finished 3-for-6 with a pair of long balls and three RBIs.

-Kelsey Ludwig (SO/Mosinee, Wis.), Giese, and Obert accounted for two hits apiece.

-For the Warriors, Hattie Hupke totaled five hits and scored both runs.


The V-Hawks will next hit the road as they take on Clarke University on April 18. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. with live stats on
