LA CROSSE, Wis. - Offense has not been a problem for the Viterbo University softball recently, but on Sunday, the V-Hawks ran into some tough pitching. Viterbo scored just three runs on the day as they fell to St. Ambrose University 8-0 and 11-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The V-Hawks could not seem to figure out Ashley Yattoni, who allowed just two hits in game one.
-Sarah Throgmorton (SO/Waukesha, Wis.) accounted for both of the base knocks but Viterbo couldn't string a rally together and fell in six innings.
-In game two, the Bees used a big first inning to jump ahead.
-St. Ambrose scored seven runs in the top of the first as they chased Sarah Obert (SO/La Crosse, Wis.) after just one out.
-Lauren Davis (SO/King City, Calif.) singled in Obert in the bottom half, but six was as close as Viterbo got.
-The Bees added four more in the second before Abigail Giese (FR/Hager City, Wis.) drove in Davis which made it 11-2 through three innings.
-Throgmorton led off the fourth with a solo home run, her fourth hit of the day, but the Bees continued to plate runs, earning a 16-3 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Throgmorton finished 4-for-4 on the day with the solo home run.
-Giese was the only other V-Hawk with at least two hits, as she went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
-Errors were a big story as eight mistakes led to 11 unearned runs on the day.
-Kayla McInerney (SR/Taconite, Minn.) tossed 4.2 innings in game one and allowed three earned runs while striking out a pair.
