LA CROSSE, Wis. – Right in the thick of the North Star Athletic Association standings, the Viterbo University men's game knew this was an important weekend. The V-Hawks took care of business, earning a weekend sweep after holding off Dakota State 66-61 on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Dakota State came out hot, jumping to a seven-point advantage, but the V-Hawks clawed back to tie it 19-19 with 6:50 to play in the half.

-Cade Anderson (SO/Sparta, Wis.) then connected on a layup and Jake Bamke (SR/Hortonville, Wis.) followed as Viterbo held the slim lead with two minutes left.

-The Trojans scored five points in the final 48 seconds, but a pair of free throws from Jared Fleischmann (JR/Marshfield, Wis.) and a jumper from Erik Engelstad (SR/Cambridge, Wis.) helped Viterbo keep the lead in to the locker room at 29-27.

-Viterbo did not see another deficit until a Dakota State layup with 8:48 to play.

-From there, the two battled back-and-forth with five ties and three lead changes the rest of the way.

-Tied 60-60, Ethan Haberman (JR/La Crosse, Wis.) knocked down a jumper for two of his 17 second-half points and Viterbo held the advantage.

-Strong defense and free throws were key in the final minute as Haberman sealed the deal with four late free throws.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

-Haberman finished 6-for-13 from the floor for a team-high 19 points. The junior knocked down three triples, all in the second half and finished 4-for-4 from the line.   

-Engelstad joined in double figures as he totaled 15 points on an efficient 6-for-9 night. He added seven rebounds and a pair of assists.

-Fleischmann had a solid nine points and seven assists while turning the ball over just once. Additionally, the junior added two steals.

-Viterbo shot 46.2 percent from the floor including 12-for-14 from the line.

-The Trojans were led by Tanner Heiser, who scored 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting.
