LA CROSSE, Wis. – After dropping three in a row on the road, the Viterbo University men's basketball team returned to their bread and butter – the R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium. The V-Hawks picked up their sixth straight win on their home court, holding off Valley City State University 66-58.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Erik Engelstad (SR/Cambridge, Wis.) set the pace early, scoring the V-Hawks first five points and Viterbo never looked back, holding the lead the entire game.

-Ethan Haberman (JR/La Crosse, Wis.) connected on a pair of triples in the final 10 minutes of the half as he joined Engelstad with 10 points in the first frame.

-Defense was key for Viterbo as they shut down Valley City from beyond the arc, allowing them to shoot just 1-for-8 (12.5 percent).

-Out of the locker room, the V-Hawks pushed their advantage to 15 points after a three-pointer from Jared Fleischmann (JR/Marshfield, Wis.).

-The lead hovered around 15 until the Vikings put on some pressure in the final four minutes.

-Valley City had a layup and three-pointer to cut their deficit to six with 52 seconds to play, but Fleischmann and Austin Poehls (JR/Cadott, Wis.) hit three free throws to push the lead back to nine.

-The Vikings responded with two free throws, but it was too late as Viterbo evened their conference record at 6-6.
