
La Crosse, Wis. - Viterbo University used a balanced attack to end the regular season on a high not as they defeated Waldorf College 25-9, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21.Viterbo finishes the regular season 29-10 overall and 6-2 in Midwest Collegiate Conference Play.
Leading a well balanced attack tonight was junior Jenna Lau (Eau Claire, Wis.) with 12 kill while senior Abby Breitung (Tomah, Wis.) added 10 kills and Katie Flock (Fr. - Sparta, Wis.) chipped in 9 kills. Four others had at least six kills in the contest. Junior Amanda Bernett (Sparta, Wis.), freshman Stacie Hoffman (Mequon, Wis.) and Allison Lutz (Plymouth, Minn.) split the setting duties finishing with 23, 13, and 11 assists, respectively. MCC Libero of the Week, Heather Harelstad (Sr. - Chippewa Falls, Wis.) once again led the V-Hawk defense with 18 digs.
The V-Hawks started out fast as they jumped all over the Warriors and dominated set 1 25-9. In set one, the V-Hawks finished with a .435 hitting percentage while limiting the Warriors to a -.038 hitting percentage. The second set was much the same as the first although the score was much closer. The V-Hawks recorded 14 kills in the second set but were limited to a .194 hitting percentage. In set three, the V-Hawks jumped out to a big lead which the Warriors were able to overcome and extend the match. The loss was a wake-up call for the V-Hawks as they again jumped to an early lead and were able to hold on.
Now with the regular season over, the V-Hawks look forward to the MCC tournament which starts on Saturday. The V-Hawks earned the #3 seed in the tournament and will host #6 Iowa Wesleyan College at 7:00 pm. The V-Hawks defeated the Tigers 3-2 last week Wednesday night in their only match-up of the season.
