Chicago, Ill. - It was another strong showing for the Viterbo University Men's and Women's Bowling teams over the weekend.
The V-Hawk women finished in eighth place while the V-Hawk men took ninth in the Kegel Classic in Chicago. "We're definitely heading in the right direction," said Viterbo Head Coach Jim Socha. "We'vebowled against most of the top teams in the country in our first two events. The men and women are showing they can compete with anyone."
The Viterbo women's team advanced to the eight team knockout round in Chicago. "Even though we were eliminated in the first round, that experience should really help in the future" said Socha. Rachel Schalow (Fr. - Marshfield, Wis.), Kendra Bundy (Fr. - Tomah, Wis.), Megan Jirsa (Fr. - La Crosse, Wis.), Jennifer Rettmueller (Fr. - Kenosha, Wis.), Sam Willingmyre (Fr. - Gurnee, Ill.), and Nikki Emberson all made major contributions for the V-Hawks. "We really had good balance over the weekend."
The V-Hawk men just missed qualifying for the knockout round, but the weekend was a significant success. "On any given weekend our guys can win one of these events" said Socha. Andy Mills (Jr. - Onalaska, Wis.), Jade Lucas and Greg Pizl (Fr. - Antigo, Wis.) all finished in the top 25 in the individual portion of the competition."I thought Tony Berg did a great job as our sixth man. Kyle Breu (Fr. - Auburndale,Wis.) and Matt Krueger (Fr. - Green Bay, Wis.) were also solid."
Next action for the Viterbo bowling teams is November 7-8 at the Warhawk Open at Badger Bowl in Madison, Wis.
