Winona, Minn. - The Viterbo University women's soccer team used two first half goals to propel them to a 2-1 win over Waldorf College in Midwest Collegiate Conference action.

Battling the horrendous weather (wind and rain), the V-Hawks got on the board first when Lauren Turinetti (Fr. - Wausau, Wis.) put Anastasia Jensen's (Jr. - Anoka, Minn.) pass into the back of the net in the 13th minute. The first half looked as though it would end that way but Turinetti had a different plan as she scored her second goal of the game in the 42nd minute. Freshman Emily Williamson (Rochester, Minn.) recorded her second assist in as many games on the goal. Viterbo entered the half with a 2-0 lead as they outshot Waldorf 8-2 in the opening period.

The second half started out much the same as Viterbo would have chances to tack on another goal but could not find a way. Waldorf also started to ramp up the pressure as they finally connected on a shot as Autumn McMahan scored in the 67th minute. Viterbo would then have a chance to add an insurance goal and all but put the Warriors away but came up empty on a penalty kick in the 78th minute. Waldorf would not have any more scoring opportunities and the V-Hawks would sneak away with the 2-1 victory.

Viterbo finished the contest with a 13-3 advantage in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Turinetti helped provide much of the offense for the V-Hawks as she finished with a game high six shots while Rita Rabb (Fr. - La Crosse, Wis.) added four more shots.

The win improves the V-Hawks to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in MCC action. The V-Hawks have now won three of their last four contests and continue to keep an outside hope of winning a MCC championship. The loss drops the Warriors to 5-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play. Viterbo will be in action next when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Saturday to take on the Mustangs of Mount Mercy College. Game time is scheduled for 11:00 am.
