Notre Dame, Ind. - The Viterbo cross country teams ran in one of the largest meets in the country Friday at the 31st National Catholic Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. In the thirty-two team meet the V-Hawk women finished seventeenth overall in the 5,000 meter race, and the V-Hawk men finished twenty-sixth in the men's five mile race. The host fighting irish swept the team crowns, with Lindsey Ferguson winning the women's 5-K race. DePaul University's Matt Graham won the men's race in 24:53.

Sophomore Bea Foley (Greenville, Wis.) continued her strong season as she once again was the first Lady V-Hawk finisher, this time finishing in 16th place out of 260 finishers. Foley's time of 19:02 for the 5-K distance sets a new record for the women's cross country team. The previous fastest 5-K run by a Lady V-Hawk harrier was 20:35 by Holly Cuhel last year. Freshman Rosemary Loken (La Crosse, Wis.) also bettered Cuhel's former school record, finishing the race in 20:29 and in ninety-second place.

"With some of our team members not feeling 100% today, it was important that Bea and Rosemary ran well," commented Head Coach John Metelko. "It was encouraging to see our runners battling for positions throughout the entire race."

As a team, the Lady V-Hawks finished twenty points behind Midwest Collegiate Conference rival Mount Mercy, and seventy-eight points ahead of St. Ambrose

In the men's race, freshman Cameron Olson (Holmen, Wis.) became the third different freshman to lead the men's team at the finish this year. Olson's time of 27:56 earned him 96th place out of 248 runners. Olson's performance was more than 90 seconds quicker than his last race at Crown College. Freshman Patrick Understeller (Mountview, Hawaii) also ran a strong race, finishing the 5-mile course in 29:16 and 160th place.

As a team, the V-Hawk harriers finished in 26th place, sixteen points behind NCAA Division 1 St. Bonaventure, but ahead of the NAIA's St. Francis (Ind.) and Holy Cross (Ind.).

The V-Hawks will now be off for two weeks before they travel to West Allis, Wis., for the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3. The women's 6-K race will kick off the meet at 11 a.m., and will be followed by the men's 8-K race at 12:00 p.m.
